Resolution On The Conservation Of Cetaceans
Description
- Prohibits vessels from intentionally setting purse seine around a cetaceans
- Requires vessels to safely release any unintendedly encircled cetaceans (purse seine)
- CPCs using other gears shall report all interactions with cetaceans to the relevant authority of the flag state
- IOTC SC requested to develop best practice guidelines for safe release and handling of encircled cetaceans
- Does not apply to artisanal vessels operating in their EEZ
- CPCs who have national and state legislation for protecting the species are exempt from reporting to IOTC
