Resolution by ICCAT on Cetacean Encirclement
Description
Strongly encourages CPCs to:
- prohibit their flag fishing vessels from intentionally setting purse seine nets on a school of tuna if a cetacean is sighted in or above the tuna school; if it is unintentionally encircled then steps must be taken to ensure their safe release
- collect and report data re interactions with cetaceans
- ensure fishers are aware of and use proper mitigation, identification and safe handling and release techniques
