Auto-release technology

Early experimental work with a device equipped with several sensors to assist in characterizing species-specific line behavior of fish caught on longlines, with the goal of detecting species in real-time and releasing bycatch species automatically and immediately after capture. Quick release would reduce the risk of negative physiological and behavioral impacts and depredation, and thus lowering post-release mortality.
